In June, 2024, the Aurora Economic Opportunity Coalition, along with community partners and Aurora City employees, embarked on an enlightening trip to the NEWSED Community Development Corporation located in the Art District on Santa Fe.

This video documents our visit to one of the few CDCs in the Denver Metro area that possesses decades of experience in working towards community revitalization through economic revitalization. Watch our video documenting our trip and witness how we gained invaluable insights from NEWSED which we are excited to apply in NW Aurora.

On Wednesday, February the 28th 2024, the Aurora Economic Opportunity Coalition had the time of their lives cleaning up the NW Aurora community with our cherished community members and partners.

We'd like to offer a HUGE thanks to the Aurora Police Department, City of Aurora Code Enforcement, City of Aurora Licensing and Finance Department, Aurora Community Connection / La Conexión Comunitaria de Aurora, Migrant Response Network of Northwest Aurora, Mosaic Unlimited, Black Parents United Foundation-BPUF, and Ward 3 Council Member Ruben Medina.

In the future we intend on making these cleanups a common occurrence and would LOVE to have more community members and organizations join us. Interested in joining us next time? Check out our video above to see what you can expect!
In December, 2023, The Aurora Economic Opportunity Coalition was invited by Council Member Crystal Murillo to be a part of an educational trip to Boston, Massachusetts to learn about Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, Lawrence CommunityWorks, and their successes with community engagement and neighborhood revitalization. The 2023 Colorado Health Symposium was focused harnessing people-power to generate positive change and bring health within reach for all Coloradans. The AEOC was honored to have been invited to this incredible event and to have participated in their panel discussion. See below as AEOC Executive Director, Mateos Alvarez, discusses East Colfax, NW aurora, and community health.
On November 3, 2022, the Aurora Economic Opportunity Coalition hosted the Dia de los Muertos event to honor day laborers who enriched the Northwest Aurora community and who had passed away. This celebration also served as an Open House for the Dayton Street Day Labor Center, a community hub connecting workers with jobs and fostering networking among local leaders and business owners. Attendees left with full stomachs, artful reflections, and positive new community memories.
